Animal Farm is a book written by George Orwell, and it represents satire because it mocks the misuse of power. Stalinism and the Soviet Union's socialism.
Huckleberry Finn Timeline; Chapters 1-5
Chapter 1: After a short summary of "The Adventures of Tom Sawer," the story begins with Tom and Huck inheriting a lot of money after finding a treasure chest. Huck didn't have a family he felt safe with, so he began to live with a widow, but hated it so bad he ran away. Although he wasn't gone long because Tom convinced him to return and join his gang.
Chapter 2: The chapter begins with Tom and Huck waking up the widow's slave, Jim, and were messing with him by placing his hat in a tree. After playing the trick on Jim, the two found a secret cave, and formed a gang of robbers with a few other boys.
Chapter 3: After the widow attempts to teach Huck how to become close to God, and be religious, a rumor is spread that Huck's father had passed away. Huck knew that this was a lie, and began to find out that Tom was just full of it, and the gang fell apart because of it.
Chapter 4: Huck sees his dad's footprint outside his house, and then gets rid of his money. Huck then went to his real home and found his dad in his bedroom.
Chapter 5: Huck's dad is very mad about Huck learning to read, and about how Huck gave all the money away. The widow then tried to adopt Huck, but the judge wouldn't let it happen. So Huck lives with his dad now.
Time Period of The Novel:
I think this story takes place around the early to mid 1800's. This is because slavery seemed to be legal, and some words that were used then were just names, rather today they are used as slurs and insults.
Perspective and POV:
The perspective and POV of the narrator, Huck Finn, influences the story in a couple of ways. First of all, the reader knows that the story took place a long time ago because of the things people say, and what's right and wrong. Also, with Huck being a young kid, we students can maybe relate and understand some of the things he says or does.

Chapters 6-10
Why Did Pap Keep Huck Locked Up
Pap tried to gain custody of Huck, and get Huck's money back. Because he couldn't, he went and loitered around the widow's house, where Huck was. The widow then told him to leave, so he kidnapped Huck and locked him in the cabin.
What's an Abolitionist? Why Was Huck Concerned of Being Called One
An abolitionist is someone who favors the abolition of something. This is very common when it comes to government or in Huck's case, slavery. Huck was concerned about being called an abolitionist because most people during his time supported slavery, and probably would've not liked Huck because of what he thought.
What Gave Away Huck When He Was Trying To Be A Female
1) Huck didn't have a great disguise to start out with.
2) When he caught the object that the lady threw at him he put his legs together when a girl would put them apart.
3) He changed his fake name from the original fake name when the lady asked him another time.
4) When he tried sewing he brought the needle to the string when a lady would normally put the string to the needle.
Chapters 12-16
What is the story of King Solomon and his child? How does Jim interpret that story?
Two women had given birth to children. In the night one woman set her baby away from her so that she wouldn't roll over her child in the middle of the night. The second women left her baby near her and rolled over and killed her child. The lady who had killed her child claimed that the wise lady's child was her own. When they talked to King Solomon about it he suggested that they cut the child in half and give one half to the first lady and one to the second. The foolish woman did not protest toward cutting the child in half, while the other lady did. The lady who still had her kid asked him to spare the life of the child and to just give him to the other lady. King Solomon decided that the child belonged to the wise lady because no mother would ever let their child die. Jim thought that King Solomon was actually going to cut the child in half because he had so much of his own he could afford it.
When Jim wakes up after their separation in the fog, what does Jim's reaction to Huck's joke tell us about him? How do you feel about Jim at this point?
Jim did not react well when he found out Huck had been messing with him. Jim was very upset with Huck because he was worried and really cared about Huck. Also, he'd already thought he lost him once. Jim's reaction showed how much he cared about Huck and how much he hated being made a fool out of. Since he wasn't educated and a slave he probably already was often joked around with, and made a fool out of a lot, but now that it was by Huck, who he cared about, it was terrible. At this point I feel for Jim because he was very upset about what Huck did to him.
Jim is very superstitious. From a historical standpoint, why do you think this is?
Jim is very superstitious because he is uneducated and doesn't know how to explain why certain things happen. He believes most of what he hears.
“It was fifteen minutes before I could work myself up to go and humble myself to a nigger – but I done it, and I warn’t ever sorry for it afterwards, neither.” What does this line tell us about Huck?
This line tells us that Huck was nervous to tell Jim he was sorry. It the culture at this time slaves were never right and never deserved to be apologized to. It was almost like their feelings didn't matter. Since Huck was raised this way it was a big deal to apologize to him but it tells us that Huck is better than society and was caring and knew that it really upset Jim who was a true friend of his.
At the end of chapter 16 Huck is struggling with giving Jim up. Outline the battle that he has with himself, and explain his actions when the men come up looking for the 5 escaped slaves.
In chapter 16, Huck starts to think about everything he is doing. He doesn't know if it better to give Jim up and ruin their friendship, or to help Jim escape but and risk someone finding out he helped free a slave. Because Huck doesn't want to be seen as an abolitionist, he is put in a difficult position. He says that either way he loses something. When the men come looking for the five missing slaves and ask if Jim is in the boat he says yes but also that his family is with him and they are sick with smallpox. The men didn't want to get sick or exposed, so they left him with money. Huck chose to protect Jim and save their friendship. He used very quick thinking to make up an excuse that would keep the men from finding Jim.

Chapters 17-21
Describe the Grangerford family
Acche Grangerfords were "a mighty fine family" with "a mighty nice house".
Mark Twain alludes that the feud between the Grangerfords and the Shepherdsons is about traditional feuds between farmer and rancher. Why would he write this into the novel? What does it say about these two occupations at this time?
This says that these two occupations were against each other at the time. Twain might have put this is because it was a well known feud at the time.
Toward the end of chapter 18 Huck says “I don’t want to talk much about the next day. I reckon I’ll cut it pretty short.” Huck says this prior to telling us about the big battle. How does our narrator’s perspective play a role in what we think and feel reading this section?
Huck is clearly very sad and depressed about this battle. Often, people don’t want to talk about things they are sad about, which applies to Huck in this case. His emotions at this point in the book can project onto the reader, because of the way Huck describes the situation.
Explain who the King and the Duke are. Why does Huck go along with their story?
They are potential criminals who were running from people chasing them. Huck saw them and let them onto the raft. Huck goes along with their story because he feels bad for them, and he wants to make them feel good.
What problems do you anticipate with the Duke’s solution to how they can all run the raft during the day?
If someone sees them, and they’re told that Jim is a runaway slave, they might want to take Jim away. They might think that Jim could be taken away right then and there. Also, when they actually get down to where they’re “taking Jim”, they will still be asked what they are doing with Jim. They can’t really make that excuse anymore, because they will all be in the location that they were claiming to turn Jim in at.
Illustrate the town that the play will be held in
The town was not in a very good spot at all.

Chapters 22-26
END OF CHAPTER WE SEE THE HANDBILL THAT THE KING AND THE DUKE WILL PASS OUT. THE DUKES SAYS, " IF THAT LINE DON'T FETCH THEM, I DON'T KNOW ARKANSAW!" WHY WOULD THE BOTTOM OF THE HANDBILL WORK TO GET PEOPLE INTO THE PLAY?
The bottom of the handbook was, "Low-Brow Comedy Show! XXX!" This line works because it insures that the people going into the play that nothing bad will happen. The king and the duke perform their "Shakespeare" to uneducated poor people and they end up not liking the show that much. That is why they put up the line at the bottom of the handbook and that is why it works people the people know that nothing bad will happen.
TOWARDS THE END OF CHAPTER 23 IT SAYS " WHAT WAS THE USE TO TELL JIM THERE WASN'T REAL KINGS AND DUKES? IT WOULDN'T DONE NO GOOD, AND BESIDES, IT WAS JUST AS I SAID; YOU COULDN'T TELL THEM FROM THE REAL KIND"WHY DOESN'T HUCK SEE THE USE IN TELLING JIM
He doesn't think it will help to tell Jim about the king and duke being fake because Jim misses and loves his family as much as the whites so it would make Jim upset, but it also would't do no good even if he did tell Jim.
WHAT DOES HUCK MEAN BY "YOU COULDN'T TELL THEM FROM THE REAL KIND"
I think he means the fake ones are impersonating the real ones, the real and fake ones are the same.
CHAPTER 24 READS " IT WAS ENOUGH TO MAKE A BODY ASHAMED OF THE HUMAN RACE' WHAT IS HUCK TALKING ABOUT? WHAT DOES IT TELL US ABOUT HUCK?
He feels this was way because the king and the duke are playing the parts of the dead mans brothers. They go around town and they make a big deal that the brother died before they arrived, the duke is playing one of the dead brothers and he is a deaf mute. Huck feels this way about it them making a body ashamed of the human race because the king and the duke are playing the parts of a dead mans brother but they do not know for sure if he is even dead or not.
IN CHAPTER 25 WE MEET THE DOCTOR. HOW DOES THE DOCTOR KNOW THAT THE KING AND THE DUKE ARE A FRAUD?
The doctor knows that the king and duke are frauds because he notices how bad the kings British accent is so he calls them out for lying and faking who they were.
THE KING AND THE DIKE CONSIDER LEAVING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, WHY DONT THEY?
The king and the duke don't leave in the middle of the night with the money because Huck feels bad for the family because the child has a birth defect, so he wants to help them get their money back.

Chapters 27-30
Why did people stay up with the dead during this time period? (Chapter 27)
What we learn about Huck when he says the slaves will be with their families in two weeks
The way I see it this shows us that Huck has good intentions and thinks through his options. Through out the book Huck shows how carefully he thinks out his plans and ideas. Even though there can be hiccups in his plans he can think through it and fix what is wrong. It also shows how human he is. He is a caring down to earth person and we really see that with Ms. Marry Jane and how he knew what was happening was very wrong and he had to do something. Also for his plan to work he had to be honest and upfront to her with what was happening. In general this part in the book re-asures us that Huck is a good guy with good intentions and he will do just about anything to make what is wrong, right. What were the methods that the towns people used to identify the real and fake brothers
One of the begging give aways was an old man that lived up town a aways that had seen the Duke, King, and Huck when the king claimed to be in not the location he was seen at. The real Duke and King show up before this conversation which is really what started the whole thing. During the interrogation there was a hand writing test that was conducted but it was found rather inconclusive. They then decide to see who knew what he had tattooed on his chest before he died and neither were found right do they all went to go dig up the grave and decide who was right about the tattoo. Non of it really mattered anyways because when they all found the gold everyone just about forgot about the interrogation.

Chapters 31-35
Huck says “You can’t pray a lie.” What lie is he trying to pray about? What does he mean?
Huck was wanting to pray for forgiveness about helping Jim escape. In that time it was illegal and not a good thing to do to help a black person escape it's owner. Although, it wasn't just any slave it was Jim. Huck became very close with Jim and couldn't help himself to do anything but help Jim. He knew it was wrong and tried to pray for forgiveness but decided he didn't really want forgiveness because he didn't believe that he did anything wrong. It was just wrong by society.
Why does Huck tear up the letter he writes?
Huck decided to write a letter to Tom telling him to let Miss Watson know where Jim is at. He wrote the letter but then in the midst of praying he reminisced on how kind-hearted and good of a friend Jim had been to him. He then decided he would rather take the chance and go to hell in order to stand by Jim. He tore up the letter so that Miss Watson would never know where Jim is and he wasn't going to send it anyway. This is extremely important and significant because Huck is showing how he does not side with the rest of society and racist actions.
Huck is disappointed that Tom would help him steal Jim. He says “Tom Sawyer fell, considerable, in my estimation. Only I couldn’t believe it. Tom Sawyer a nigger stealer!” What do you think of this?
Honestly, I don't think I would word it as Huck was disappointed in Tom but more that he was surprised and caught of guard by the new actions Tom is displaying. Tom Sawyer went from being a guy who wanted to create a gang to steal and kill people to helping a slave escape. It may not seem like a big deal but then it was crazy. Also, Tom always did what he thought was cool and seeked approval from others. This new behavior of him going against societies normalities was surprising to Huck. I think it is sad that it was such a big deal to help someone just because their skin color was different.
Huck says two things at the end of chapter 33:
1.“Human beings can be awful cruel to one another.”
2.“But that’s always the way: it don’t make no difference whether you do right or wrong, a person’s conscience ain’t go no sense, and just goes for him anyway.”
What does Huck mean by these two statements?
Huck is talking about the fact that it was partially his fault that the King and the Duke got caught and tied to a rail by their feet. Even though they were not good people he still felt like he was their friend and shows his empathetic side once again. Huck is saying that no matter what actually happened your conscience will always rule over the truth. It is a mental thing. What ever you think you did wrong and keep telling yourself that then you will truly start to believe it. This is how I think of it at least.
Why are Tom and Huck looking for a more difficult way to break Jim free?
Tom and Huck chose to free Jim in a much more difficult way than was necessary. Or should I just say Tom decided this. Huck proposed his plan but Tom responded back saying it was too simple and, "wouldn't draw anymore attention than breaking into a soap factory." They decided to add more style and if Tom was going to help steal a slave he had to do it with his special flare.

Chapters 36-40
What are Tom and Huck's motivations for breaking Jim out
Huck is straight forward and only works for the thing he wants. If Huck wants Jim free he will do the most simple and easiest way to get Jim free. He doesn't cut corners either, he may take the most direct path but what he does is efficient and doesn't end poorly most of the time. Tom on the other hand wants to do what is cool and interesting and what will make a good story. What Tom wants is be interesting and truthful at the same time and to achieve this he must do everything how they would in a real jail or in a situation where it takes time to get the end goal. When they are trying to break Jim out, they don'r really have that kind of time and so Tom is basically just making everything 20 times harder than it should.
What do Huck and Tom mean by "let on" about something and why'd they do it
What they were talking about was telling everyone about their plan, knives, tunnel, and all that stuff. One of the two suggested that they dig with pick because of how long it was taking and how beaten up their hands had gotten. They came to the agreement that they should only use one tool but if it came to it they could deceive them and stretch the story way out of proportion.
Why Tom writing letters and warning signs and why did he give instructions to the other slave
Tom is making the letters and warning signs is to make sure that all their "hard work" doesn't go to waist. As Tom said "This thing will go over flat," and that is what Tom doesn't want to happen. Tom worked hard for his whole confusing master plan to come together so he wants someone to witness it. He has to take action because the family I oblivious and would take forever to figure it out. Tom told the slave just to ensure that his beautiful master plan would be witnessed and that is really the one reason he has done half of the thing he has done.
How does the planning of Jim's jail break show satire
I think it can relate a lot to things we see today, in the media and news we always see stories that are designed to make you believe some happened a certain way when really it happened this way. It also shows how things can fake or staged almost. Tom and Huck could have easily broken Jim free but they made it complicated and intricate just for the glory and the "WOW" factor. Today there is fake news everywhere, fake news that is made to make you believe something ridiculous happened when really it is just stage and completely false.
Huck says "I knew he was white inside" about Jim and why did he says this and what does it mean
What he means is that Jim is risking his freedom and for Tom after he got shot in the calf. when Huck says I knew he was white inside he means that no other black person from this time would do such a thing. Jim, Suck and recently tom, have all grown together on this crazy dangerous adventure that they have all experienced. In this scene Jim is really showing a lot of maturity and heart because I would even question if some white people would even make a decision like that which so much at risk.

He was in it for more of the thrill and excitement than the aftermath.
Thoughts on Huck
Now that I have read this novel, I am sure that Huck really was a good human. Huck had morals that were different than most of the other people at that time, but he stuck with them because he knew in his heart what was right. The fact that Huck had so much empathy for Jim showed a lot about his character. He also called Jim by his name, not just a slave, which is what most people back then would have done. Huck was somebody who was humble and selfless. He took many risks for other people throughout the story witch show so much about one person, and this made me like Huck more and more as I read.
